The islets off the coast of Belitung are best explored by boat, taking the time to stop to swim and snorkel. Palau Kepayang, fringed by lovely coral reefs, is home to a sea turtle conservation centre (the nursery can be visited). On Palau Lengkuas, barely 1ha wide, climb to the 3rd floor of the lighthouse and sample the matchless view. The rocks of Batu Perlayara and of Pulau Burung are depicted by evocative shapes, while the Palau Pasir sandbank is the realm of starfish.
