The wonderfully renovated Gaslamp Quarter (in memory of the streetlights of San Diego in the 19C) is made up of 16 blocks. Most of the buildings date from the late 19C, including the stylish William Heath Davis House. Their Victorian architecture lends a unique charm to this new urban centre. The neighbourhood is also renowned for its nightlife and many shops lining Fifth Avenue.
