Il parere della Guida Michelin
To the north of Okinoerabu island, this impressive banyan tree presides in the Kunigami village school grounds. A sacred tree, it was planted in the Meiji era, in 1898, and to this day remains one of the largest specimens in Japan. It is 7m tall, with an 8m trunk circumference and 22m-long branches; some of those that have fallen to the ground have become roots. It is regularly clipped into a shape resembling a volcanic cone.
