The culinary centrepiece of the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe has an elegant style that verges on the opulent. Exquisite details such as fine fabrics, ornate wallpaper and crystal chandeliers are perfectly in keeping with the historical castle. The cuisine is a celebration of classic tradition but always features a sophisticated twist – such as the fruity, tangy passion fruit note in the chilled white tomato soup. Boris Rommel and his dedicated team bowl diners over with their precise technique, outstanding ingredients and attention to detail. There are two set menus (one vegetarian), from which you can also order à la carte. Service is both warm and highly professional, and the chef himself often visits tables to explain the ideas behind his dishes. Theatricality is also part of the experience, for example, when the Gugelhupf of non-force-fed foie gras is portioned at your table. The amuse-bouches are served in the form of imaginative plates arranged by Boris Rommel himself. The wine list is fantastic and includes some real gems to accompany the set menu. Tip: Kick off with an aperitif at the hotel bar.
